Vocational Assessment

A vocational assessment helps determine a person's vocational interests and his or her abilities, aptitudes, and skills relative to requirements of particular jobs. An emotional or physical injury, including neurocognitive impairment, can result in an individual being unable to return to their previous vocation and difficulty fulfilling work duties.

A vocational assessment helps identify options consistent with a person's aptitudes, interests, and skills. Recommendations regarding a person's vocational future must take into account physical limitations and restrictions, including medical opinion and an occupational therapy evaluation of functional capacity as well as neuropsychological opinion of particular areas of cognitive impairment. A vocational evaluation often includes a psychological and chronic pain assessment to determine the wider scope of the injury and limitations in functioning.  The individual's vocational potential is determined based on the National Occupation Classification (NOC).
